Tell us your BNG requirements
Three short steps. We save your details at step one, show you a supply outlook and the multiplier arithmetic for your site and one of our specialists is in touch with options, typically within one working day.
Your details
Tell us who you are and where the development is. Our specialists start sourcing from this, so your check is saved straight away.
Free for developers. Your details are only used to source your units.
Your requirement
Thanks. Your reference is . Now tell us what your metric says you need.
Choose every type your metric shows a deficit for.
Decimals are fine, fractional units are common. Leave blank if you are not sure yet.
Low: hard standing, amenity grass, arable. Medium: most grassland and scrub. High and very high: priority habitats, which must be replaced like for like or better.
Your timeline
Optional extras some providers offer alongside units.
Your BNG supply outlook
Supply outlook by unit type
Last updated . Outlooks are indicative and describe availability across the region, not a specific site. See how we produce them.
How many units you may need to buy
The spatial risk multiplier means you buy more units the further supply sits from your site. These figures use your own numbers, rounded up to two decimal places.
Spatial risk is planned to move to England's 48 Local Nature Recovery Strategy areas. No commencement date had been set when we last checked. Read the guide.
Not sure how many units you need?
Your ecologist calculates the deficit using the statutory biodiversity metric: habitat area or length, multiplied by distinctiveness, condition and strategic significance, before and after development, with a 10% uplift. The off-site deficit is what is left after on-site measures. Send us the metric or refer your ecologist and we will take it from there.
Indicative prices
Unit prices vary by provider, habitat, distinctiveness and location and the provider confirms the price. Our dated, sourced ranges are on the BNG unit prices page.
What happens next
One of our specialists reviews your requirement, searches for matched supply from landowners, habitat bank operators and BNG providers across England and is in touch with options, typically within one working day.
What the sourcing check does
BNG Sourced by Green Acres BNG sources off-site biodiversity units for developers across England, free for developers, with Green Acres BNG’s specialists managing the process. The check captures your requirement in the form our specialists need, looks up your local planning authority and region from the postcode and shows how the spatial risk multiplier changes the number of units you would buy depending on where supply sits.
It never names providers and never invents figures.Outlooks come from Natural England’s biodiversity gain site register, refreshed daily, and describe how many registered providers are active in your region; our specialists then confirm availability for your site directly. See data and methodology.
What each step asks and why
| Step | What we ask | What it is used for |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Your details | Name, company, email, phone, development postcode, your role | Saves the lead so a specialist can follow up even if you stop here; the postcode finds your planning authority and region |
| 2. Your requirement | Unit types, quantities, distinctiveness, whether the metric shows a deficit | Sets the sourcing brief and the trading rules that apply |
| 3. Your timeline | Planning stage, when units are needed, interest in add-ons | Prioritises the search and flags timeline risk where supply is limited |
| Results | Nothing more | Shows the outlook, multiplier arithmetic and next steps and sends everything to a specialist with your reference |
How the arithmetic works
Units bought equal the deficit divided by the multiplier: 1.0 for supply in the same local planning authority or National Character Area, 0.75 for an adjacent area and 0.5 for elsewhere in England. Results are rounded up to two decimal places so the gain plan shows the requirement met in full. If you are not sure of your quantities, say so and the results explain how the metric produces the deficit instead.
Your data
Your details are used to source BNG units for you and may be shared with Green Acres BNG and, where relevant, BNG providers. The postcode is sent to the open postcodes.io service for the authority lookup only. See the privacy notice.
