Cattle grazing on pasture in England, farmland that could become a habitat bank
Green Acres BNG began as a working farm in Northumberland.

The Green Acres story

Green Acres BNG began as a working farm in Northumberland. When mandatory biodiversity net gain arrived in England in 2024, the family turned part of that land into habitat banks: Netherton Park near Morpeth, registered under a Section 106 agreement and High Spen in Gateshead. Both are on Natural England’s biodiversity gain site register and both are managed for the full 30 years and beyond that BNG demands.

Running habitat banks taught the team two things. First, developers across England have the same problem: a metric that shows an off-site deficit and no clear way to find units that fit it. Second, the answer is rarely one bank. It is the right units, of the right type and distinctiveness, in the right place for the multiplier, from whichever provider has them.

Why national sourcing

Green Acres’ own banks serve the North East. BNG Sourced by Green Acres BNG exists to serve the rest of England the same way: you tell us your requirement once, our specialists source potential supply from landowners, habitat bank operators and BNG providers across England, match it to your metric and the trading rules and make the introduction. The service is free for developers. Where our involvement results in an introduction, the BNG provider pays us an introduction fee.

The team’s expertise

Our specialists have hands-on experience of registering gain sites, securing them through Section 106 agreements and conservation covenants, producing planning-ready documentation and working with ecologists, consultants and planning authorities on allocations. They apply that experience to every requirement we source, whether the units come from Green Acres’ land or from another provider.

How we handle data and facts

Every regulatory fact on this site carries a last-checked date against gov.uk and legislation.gov.uk. Supply outlooks are produced automatically from Natural England’s biodiversity gain site register, refreshed every day; we never estimate. Price ranges are compiled from published England pricing reports and gov.uk statutory credit prices, presented conservatively and labelled indicative, because only a provider can confirm a price. The method is set out on the data and methodology page.

Who the service is for

  • Developers and housebuilders with an off-site deficit, from a fraction of a unit to hundreds
  • Infrastructure promoters preparing for mandatory BNG on NSIPs from 2 November 2026
  • Ecologists and planning consultants who want sourcing taken off their desk without losing the client relationship
  • Landowners and habitat bank operators with units to allocate or land that could create them

What we do not do

We do not give ecological, planning, legal or financial advice. We do not act as a marketplace or publish provider details. We do not charge developers and we do not take payment on a provider’s behalf. We source, check and introduce.

Community, charity and environment

Profits from Green Acres’ habitat banks support local community, charity and environmental projects. Optional CSR and carbon add-ons are available on request alongside units from Green Acres.

A lifelong lover of the outdoors and of the technology that helps protect it, from habitat mapping to the register data behind this site, he sees BNG as one of the rare places where development, farming and nature all come out ahead.

How Mike and the team work

Every requirement is handled by Mike Dungait from first contact to allocation. They translate the metric into a sourcing brief, search registered supply across England, check the trading rules and the multiplier, confirm register status and the legal agreement for each candidate site and present the options with the arithmetic shown. Because the team runs two gain sites, they know what providers need from a buyer and what planning authorities expect in a gain plan, which keeps allocations moving.
